Has anyone here played NetHack? I've played it for a month or two by now.
It's very difficult to get into and its graphics(if you can say it has graphics) are not that great, since it uses different marks. For example player is indicated as @ and enemys such as jackal is marked as yellow d.
also stairs wich take higher or lower in the NetHack dungeons are shown as < and >. You should read some parts of the manual that comes with the game (altough it is very long).
The basic idea of the game is to get deep in the dungeons of doom and claim the amulet of yendor to your god. you start the game with very unskilled character (wich can be almost anything from knights and samurais to healers and wizards or even an archeologist.)
You also have a pet with you wich is a dog or a cat, or a pony if you take a knight.
Along the way you will meet shop keepers and different monster and creatures such as hobbits, orcs, werewolfs, nymphs, gnomes and dwarfs.
This game is very difficult (at least for beginners) since you only have one life, so if you die you have to start from the beginning. you can save only when you quit the game so you can play later with that character. So this game is full of instant deaths (wich can be very frustrating for some people)

) since the amulet is somewhere below 20th level (or so i have heard) and my best has been level 9.
