My fav SMG(Sub machine gun) FN P90 Silent, that gun looks awesome, doesn't matter how accurate it is if you got enough ammo

ANd who mentioned anything about range. The fact that its a SMG already tells u it has poor Acu.But what the hell when It can kill anything at close range.

AK all the way, i love the AK47. symbol of gurilla resistance world wide......or summit like that
I also am very fond of the Steyr AUG and the SA-80. I love the concept of the bullpup. although i heard that ots only a right handed weapon as the exiting bullet cartrages would hit you in the face whilst firing left handed.......or visa versa

My vote goes for AK47. In the real world, portability and reliability is what matters.
Lots of other guns surely shoot faster, more accurately and further away than the Kalashnikov does. But in the middle of the battle, if you super cool, super modern, super deadly, super heavy, super delicate, super advanced gun jams, well, then you're left with a very cumbersome metallic club to defend yourself against the charging enemies.
I should say I never fired a shot in anger. My own personal experience is limited to the Air Force's 7.62 mm HK/FNBP G3 assault rifle (very much like the FN FAL) and 9 mm Walther P38 pistol, and to the family's old 12 gauge and 16 gauge 2-barrels hunter's shotguns. The design of these guns is at least as old as myself...
Like all assault rifles (or other "machines", for that matter) of German design, the G3 is pretty much ok for all-round everyday "use" (not too heavy at 8 pounds, quite accurate up to 50 meters, although only 18 rounds per clip -- 20 actually, but take 2 out not to over-compress the clip spring, otherwise it may fail to push the very first round into the chamber, after a prolonged period time of inactivity), while the also German-designed Walther is as old but not as good as the Luger, although it's Parabellum round makes it lethal at hand-to-hand distance (but I didn't find it accurate even at 10 meters, and it felt big and heavy, plus it heats up after only a couple of consecutive clips). As for shotguns, I find their "slow" cone of lead pellets good for hunting food, i.e. when there is zero risk of your "prey" returning your fire...
The Kalashnikov is well-know for being the guerilla-man's best friend. And look at the conditions they have to endure: moist, sand, mud, heat, plus all sort of knocks and blows, etc. A real-world's gun, if you ask me. Now try that with an M16...
I assume so (but really don't know) that at least the non-retractable-butt AK47 it can be fitted with a bayonette?

[...] My own personal experience is limited to the Air Force's 7.62 mm HK/FNBP G3 assault rifle (very much like the FN FAL) and 9 mm Walther P38 pistol [...] I have pictures of the G3 and Walther (plus the MG42/MG3, the Sten, the Thompson, the Luger, etc.) which I can scan from a nice little book called "Weaponry of the Portuguese Army, Vol.1 -- Light Weapons" (Vol. 2, not yet available, will be called "Artillery and Heavy Weapons"), but I don't know how to post them here. Can any of you computer savants show me how, please?

www.ak-47.us/AK47-FAQ.phpSite on AK-47. They probably haven't miss much on the subject. Just check their link (left of page) to AK-47 bayonets and tell me how many do you want! As to posting pictures I must say I'm as lost as you, Flying, but it seems that only those in sites can be posted, and even that I haven't figure out how.

Ok, To post a link to a picture on a site, I think I got it now: 1) you go to the site, right click on the picture, chose Properties, then copy the link as given under Address (URL); 2) back to the forum, you start a post and, from the Tags bar above the post editing window itself, click on the Insert Image button (the one that has a painting, i.e. the 4th from the left on the lower row); 3) in between the 2 sets of html code (square brackets), you paste the link. And when you finish the post, you should be able to see the picture on your post. Above is the picture you mention on your post, with bayonets for the AK47. Wow, lots of them!
