The problem is, you'd probably need rawstuffs and the corresponding machinery to process them, in order to be able to do whatever is described in the book, and you'd probably find yourself in a situation where you couldn't dig for coal to make steel before you had made durable digging tools made of... steel! Well, you could use iron tools, of course, but it was just an example -- even if not such a good one...

ah ok in that case an axe a big fire axe Good choice in my view, but remember: an axe is heavy, hard to sharpen, plus the handle is made of breakeable wood. Remember, you will have no other item available in your "tool-shop" for at least the next few seasons. So, too heavy to be used as a weapon, plus you will get tired after swinging it a dozen times; dangerous if you miss your aim and sink it in your leg; difficult to re-sharpen and easy to dull (small lenght of blade); and if you don't use it right you'll probably break the handle. You need to look for versatility and reliability, a universal-tool with no moving parts which you can keep in good shape pretty much for ever, plus which you can safely and continuously use for: -- close combat -- hunting -- cut saplings/palm leaves to build a shelter -- make fire (if you find flintstone) -- and whatever unforeseen things that may come across your path, such as zombies

Yes, rocks, the universal tool of ages... If you can get a good variety to chose from, you can make cutting tools, you can make fire, you can make housing. But what kind of an island are we talking about here? Just a tiny coral reef with perhaps a couple of coconut trees and a puddle of not-so-sweet water periodically over-run by crabs? Or something with coves, mountains, water-springs and an ecosystem with four legged animals?

Lol, not that kind of katana sabre I was talking about... I mean the machette type, which you use to work in agriculture, for example in the cane fields.

40 cm of blade, with 55 cm of cutting edge (under, around the tip and over), 55 cm total lenght (wood handle included), 600 g of weight. I keep it sharp as a Swiss Army pocket knife, it cuts a 5 kg watermellon in half with a single sideways blow.

yeah a macheta would be good but it would be inposible to fish whit it or make a spear but it would be exelent for bilding a woden house
but that pic of katana i posted i think it would be perfect you kuld use it like a spear or to fish whit it ...and you would be able to chop wood not a oak tree but little treed palms ...and its good for defending yourself from wild animals so i would take a katana

You may endure hunger for a few days (while you wait for your fishing/hunting traps to get you some food), but if you start throwing your blade at targets or dipping it into salt water, soon enough you won't have a usable blade anymore. If you want to catch fish, make a fishing line and hook (if you are really desperate, you can use your own clothes), make yourself a spear (or even better, a harpoon) from a straight tree branch, or make a fishing net with cord made of vegetal fibres. Start looking for food when you still don't need it. Same for drinking water and, of course, shelter.
