As to Norton it can be a real pain in the sphincter when installing/reinstalling new programs. Not that it always create problems but it sometimes had me uninstalling it and reinstalling it in order to let other programs run normally. There is no need to do that uninstalling of norton. The reson it doesn't let programs function correctly after re-installing them is that it decides (correctly IMHO) that the executable you are going to use is different to the previous one, and is not in it's list of allowed programs. 9 times out of 10 it will popup a window to ask you if you want to permit it. Anyways, to cut a long story short, you can simply go to the firewall configuration, and add the newly installed ET.exe to the list of allowed programs and select "PERMIT ALL" Hope this sheds some light on this subject

As usual, your suggestions are quite easy to follow and accurate, leaving no doubts as to how we should implement them. I had, nevertheless, already done that with Norton, and that is why I don't understand why I was still getting the high pings (in the hundreds, not just an additional couple of dozens). In my personal case, I suspect somebody was hijacking my connection and using it for purposes unknown to me. In the past couple of weeks I had deleted a couple of Exploit virus from my system (this seems to be an e-mail virus, but I don't remember anything out of the ordinary in that department), and I think this could be related. I'm currently using the High security setting for my firewall ("Block everything until you allow it"), and I've blocked quite a few incoming attempts. Haven't had any more ping spikes, but the corresponding warning window does pop-up at most inconvenient times when playing... Murphy's law at work, I guess. Nevertheless, the 2.60 patch does seem to raise the pings somewhat. I propose we throw the thing out the window altogether and go back to what we had, until the PunkBuster people can come up with a better version than this one. I mean, when I heard of a game patch update, I initially thought the PB people had finally decided to take care of the "ghosts" business. But If we still have "ghosts" with this patch AND higher pings, what's the point?

yes the ghosts are still there that is why i went o splash to tell them thsi patch sucks donkey ballls (and they deleted my posts lol) then iw rote a new post, with my same and valid complaints..
1) the pings are higher with patch 2) ghosts still cant be kicked 3) shrub doesnt work
this patch is doomed to fail if these problems arent solved.. and i dotn give a rats ass who they are what i wrote is true.. why make a patch and then solve bugs i havent even seen or known of and then do sjit about this ghost bizniz.. makes no sense... i pay sjit load of money to keep the server running adn now it is empty..
the guy even agreed that most servers havent installed patrc 2.60 and i told him why becos we cant have shrub if u rent or have a server and u pay for it u want people to go to ur homepage and what have you... without shrub u cant have inline adverticement lines. so it is doomed to fail.

I too, like Flying says, appreciate M4st3r's technical input. However I would like to point out to him that his advice is very good when all the software is functioning normally. All that he says is very sound and is what I usually do. Only sometimes normal procedure is not enough and I can say there were some occasions on which I had to reinstall windows because norton would not let internet connection work at all for any program whatsoever no matter what I've done, and would not uninstall or reinstall itself either. And sometimes not even reinstalling windows did the trick and I finally resorted to an older version of mcaffee.
But that's, of course, a FUBAR situation...

But please don't suggest McAfee, becuase I personally hate it, and everything made by them (due to personal reasons).

But please don't suggest McAfee, becuase I personally hate it, and everything made by them (due to personal reasons). Well, we always have Microsoft's own firewall... I must admit I have no idea how was it that such unperfectionist people like Microsoft managed to get the huge PC OS market-share that they do. Their salesmen must have a really Mafia-like attitude: "Hey, what do you mean you won't be using our OS? What's wrong with our OS? Not good enough for you? Don't you know our OS can prevent accidents from happening to you? You'd better buy our OS -- and every other single piece of software we ever did/will do for that matter -- if you want to stay in business, mister..."
