A lot of games have been played of this competition, now it's time for 1/8 finals. Last year, a team from Italy - FC Internacionale, won the trophy. The club made it so far, but people mostly talk about the big spanish duo (Real and Barcelona) as the favourites. I hope that Manchester United prevails, so i will vote for them ;D The fixtures look like this (starting at 20:45 CET):
February 15 th AC Milan - Tottenham Hotspur (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Milan) Valencia CF v Schalke 04 (Mestalla, Valencia)
February 16 th AS Roma - Shakhtar Donetsk (Stadio Olimpico, Rome) Arsenal - FC Barcelona (Emirates Stadium, London)
February 22 nd Olympique Lyon - Real Madrid (Stade Gerland, Lyon) FC København - Chelsea (Parken, Copenhagen)
February 23 rd Internazionale - Bayern München (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Milan) Olympique Marseille - Manchester United (Stade Vélodrome, Marseille)

Results of the first 4 matches: AC Milan 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur (Crouch '80) Valencia CF 1 - 1 Schalke 04 (Soldado '17; Raul '64) AS Roma 2 - 3 Shakhtar Donetsk (Perrotta '28, Menez '61; Jadson '29, Costa '36, Luiz Adriano '41) Arsenal 2 - 1 FC Barcelona (van Persie '78, Arshavin '83; Villa '26) One of the biggest upsets of the last few months was prepared by the team of young players from London - Arsenal. On their home pitch, they not only managed come from behind a goal, but they have also beaten on of the greatest teams of the last few years, the great FC Barcelona. I have to give those lads a credit for a job well done On the other side, we have a "villian of the week" award, that goes to AC Milan's player - Gennaro Gattuso. After the game in Milano, he assulted Tottenham's assistant manager Joe Jordan (as u can see in the picture). For that, UEFA decided to ban him for four matches. I tottaly agree with the decision, it is just not right to do that stuff, especially to a member of coaching team, which should be respected.

Tuesday's matches: Olympique Lyon 1 - 1 Real Madrid (Gomis '83; Benzema '65) FC København 0 - 2 Chelsea (Anelka '17, '54)
Real Madrid haven't managed to beat Lyon yet, and the same happened yesterday. The away team played better, hitting the post twice (Ronaldo, Ramos), but it was the ex-Lyon player, Benzema, who scored first. The home side equalized 7 minutes from the end, earning themselves a draw, but it will be very difficult for them to win in Spain, but we musn't forget that Real Madrid haven't qualified to the quarter finals in the last six years ...
Chelsea didn't have any problems with the team from Denmark, Kobenhavn. The team from london was few levels above the home team and thanks to the french striker, Anelka, they now have a big lead prior to the second match.

Wednesday's matches: Internazionale 0 - 1 Bayern München (Gomez '90) Olympique Marseille 0 - 0 Manchester United
The game between Inter and Bayern appeared set to end in a goalless stalemate before Julio Cesar spilled Arjen Robben's speculative drive, allowing Gomez to tap home a crucial away goal. Bayern had rattled the woodwork once in each half, with Franck Ribery heading onto the bar before Robben's angled shot hit the post after the interval. Bayern will defend their one-goal lead in the tie on their home turf, with the second leg scheduled for March 15 at the Allianz Arena.
Manchester United and Marseille played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash, with defenders the stars in France. Chances were few and far between as the two sides cancelled each other out, with neither goalkeeper forced into serious action and a high-quality array of forwards stifled by excellent performances from Chris Smalling for United and Souleymane Diawara of Marseille. As a United fan, i really hope that the team from england plays a lot better on the second match, plus they have to win, a draw is only good for Marseille ...

Barcelona and Shakhtar through to 1/4 finalsTuesday's results:Shakhtar Donetsk 3 - 0 AS Roma (Hübschman 18’, Willian 58’, Eduardo 87’) FC Barcelona 3 - 1 Arsenal (Messi 45’, 71’ (pen.), Xavi 69'; Busquets 53’ (o.g.)) Ukranian club Shakhtar had no problems with Roma, their best player was definetely the goalkeeper Pyatov, who saved a penalty and kept a clean sheet. The total goal difference was 6-2 for ukranian club, congratulations to them. In the "clash of giants", Barcelona defeated the 10 men Arsenal (Van Persie getting red card in 56') with a help from two goal of Lionel Messi. It could have been at least 7-1 for the club of spain, but the strikers were simply not accurate enough. There are still 12 teams that are yet to play for 6 available places, i think we will see some more good matches

Tottenham and Schalke progress to next roundTottenham Hotspur 0 - 0 AC Milan Schalke 04 3 - 1 Valencia CF (Farfán 40’, 90’, Gavranovic 52’; Ricardo Costa 17’) Tottenham became the first english team to secure the next stage of competition, after drawing a goalless match with AC Milan. The team from Italy was better than the visitors, but failed to score. We could say that Tottenham defeated the italian team with a "italian style soccer" - meaning they were concetrating more on defending. It worked out for them, meaning AC Milan is the second italian team to crash out (after Roma), leaving FC Inter to save the honour of Italy. In the second game of the night, Schalke won on home soil thanks to two goals of spanish midfielder Farfan (right side of the picture). It was Valencia that scored first in 17. minute, but the german determination payed off, and the team, which is only in ten place in german bundesliga, joined Barcelona, Shakhtar and Tottenham in the next round, with four more games being played in the upcoming week.

Manchester United and Internazionale through to quarterfinalsTuesday's resultsBayern München 2 - 3 Internazionale (Gomez 21’, Müller 31'; * Eto'o 3’, Sneijder 63’, Pandev 88’) Manchester United 2 - 1 Olympique Marseille (Hernández 5’, 75’; Brown 82’ (o.g.)) In of the most interesting games of this round, FC Internazionale "rose from the dead" after trailing 1-2 and being dominated by Bayern, they scored twice (Eto'o scored and assisted twice) and completely schocked the home crowd with a 3-2 win and progress to next round. The Italian team has beaten the german side once more, after doing so in the last year's finals. Congratulations to them, but they still have to work on their consistency. Second team, which moved one step forward towards finals is my beloved Manchester United It was a hard-earned win (2:1) over the french club, Marseille. Young player from Mexico, Javier Hernandez, scored twice for the home team, with another home player, Wes Brown, scoring an own goal for the french side. If United want to beat their future opponents in this competition, they have to improve their defence - John O'Shea and Rafael got injured today, with first pick Nemanja Vidić and Rio Ferdinand also absent with injuries, it represents a big problem for the english club. Hope the players will return ASAP so we can see the full potential of this club. Only two emtpy places remain and four clubs will fight for them - Real Madrid, Olympique Lyon, Chelsea and FC København.

Real and Chelsea cruise to quarterfinalsWednesday's resultsReal Madrid 3 - 0 Olympique Lyon (# Marcelo 37', Benzema 66’, Di María 76’) Chelsea 0 - 0 FC København In the last two matches of this round, both home teams converted the good results from first matches to qualify for quarterfinals. Real Madrid trashed the french opponent 3:0, standing firm the whole time. One of the goals was scored by Karim Benzema (on the picture), who scored on the first match as well. In London, Chelsea didn't manage to score against a small club from Denmark. However, the home team won the first match with 2:0 so there were no doubts about who will qualify for the next round. I know nobody is reading this, but still ;D THE FINAL OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, MAY 28 TH (Wembley, ENG):
Manchester United - BarcelonaMy favourite club managed to qualify for the big final with a great club, FC Barcelona. United have beaten Schalke in a round before (2:0, 4:1) and the club from spain have beaten their rivals, Real Madrid (2:0, 1:1). I really hope United will prevail at the end and revenge the defeat in 08/09, when Barcelona won in the final, which took place in Rome. Let's go Red Devils!!
